This chapter explains how Shek Kip Mei Fire paved for the establishment of the first stage of resettlement blocks in Shek Kip Mei and in turn the provisions of public housing in Hong Kong.
Chapter II Discover the past of Hong Kong from Mei Ho House
This chapter helps to discover the past social condition of Hong Kong through the structure and environment of Mei Ho House and the daily life and living habits of Shek Kip Mei residents.
Chapter III Preserving and revitalizing historic buildings
This chapter explains the four strategies of “Redevelopment”, Rehabilitation”, “Preservation”, “Revitalisation” under heritage preservation and revitalization strategies in Hong Kong, and how the Hong Kong Youth Hostels Association revitalized Mei Ho House into a youth hostel through the Development Bureau’s “Revitalising Historic Buildings Through Partnership Scheme” which helps to preserve and redevelop the historic heritage.

本章節藉美荷樓為例子, 透過「重建」、「復修」、「保育」、「活化」， 說明香港的文物保育和活化政策。2008 年香港青年旅舍協會透過發展局的「活化歷史建築 夥伴計劃」， 把美荷樓活化 成青年旅舍， 讓美荷樓得以保育和再發展 ，為其注入新生命。
