With the COVID-19 causing many uncertainties, everyone is feeling the stress from the sudden change in lifestyle. Students especially, already burdened with academic pressure, are vulnerable as they struggle to seek an emotional outlet to vent their negative emotions. Some teenagers may fall victim to emotional outbursts and descend into depression. Funded by the Hong Kong Jockey Club Charities Trust, the ‘Jockey Club “Peace and Awareness” Mindfulness Culture in Schools Initiative’ (JC PandA) has launched ‘Mindfulness in the Face of Academic Stress’ resources package to encourage students to create a mindful space in times of the epidemic, so as to better adjust their emotions for their mental well-being.

Altering your Mindset Proactively with Mindfulness Practice

Research has proven that mindfulness practices are effective in reducing stress, alleviating mood problems, and nourishing a positive attitude towards life. Students are welcome to download ‘Mindfulness in the Face of Academic Stress’ resources package which consists of an introductory video and two sets of mindfulness practice tutorial videos. In these mindfulness practices, students can pay attention to the present moment and thus release their stress in a peaceful way.

In the times of COVID-19, JC PandA is exhibiting its care towards different age groups in society by launching “Mindfulness in the Time of Coronavirus Epidemic” Resources Package to the public. The package offers a bilingual version, where viewers could take mindfulness practice tutorials according to their interest.

JC PandA recommends users to practise according to the sequence of the audio guides. Beginners may start with the shortest practice. Both resources packages are launched with the support from the Hong Kong Association of Careers Masters and Guidance Masters.

繁重的學業往往是學生壓力的主要來源。疫情肆虐期間,周邊的不穩定情況更容易令學生壓力大增。有些青少年欠缺處理情緒問題的經驗,害怕向人傾訴,有機會自我封閉,陷入負面情緒。由香港賽馬會慈善信託基金撥款捐助的賽馬會「樂天心澄」靜觀校園文化行動(賽馬會「樂天心澄」)於今年推出「學習減壓學靜觀」資源套,鼓勵學生在「疫」境中創造靜觀的空間,透過靜觀修習減壓,調節自身情緒。

靜觀修習 積極改變心情

根據研究,靜觀有助抗壓及紓緩情緒困擾,更能培養正面的人生態度。學生可自行於計劃網站下載「學習減壓學靜觀」資源套,免費觀看一段解釋壓力反應的影片和兩組靜觀修習指導音頻,嘗試使受情緒困擾的心平靜下來。不論是長時間溫習、試前失眠、在試場等待派卷,或是放榜前憂慮成績和前途,這套資源套均可助學生透過靜觀練習感覺到自己的情緒變化,保持平靜和靈活解決問題。

在疫情期間,賽馬會「樂天心澄」亦照顧到其他年齡層的精神健康。由賽馬會「樂天心澄」設計的「『疫』境中的靜觀空間」資源套收集分別長5分鐘、10分鐘及40分鐘的靜觀修習,供公衆使用。資源套提供雙語版本,歡迎公眾於網上下載。

賽馬會「樂天心澄」建議初學或從未接觸過靜觀的人士循序漸進,按音頻的編碼順序,從最短的音頻開始修習。兩個資源套均得到香港輔導教師協會協辦支持。
